You are eligible to participate in this study if you are involved in a romantic relationship and have been living with your partner for at least 12 months (1 year). You and your partner must be at least 18 years old and be fluent in English. Given broader study goals, female participants must be 40 years old or younger.

All payments will be distributed using TangoCard. This site compensates participants involved in research with gift cards. Participants are able to choose gift cards from a catalog of over 200 vendors (e.g., Visa, Amazon, Starbucks) across the United States.For the baseline survey and lab session, you will receive compensation after the lab session has been completed. In other words, both partners must complete the online survey and lab session to receive payment. Research assistants will virtually distribute payment following completion of the lab session. Couples will earn $80.00 for completing the baseline component of the study.For the 28 daily surveys, you will be compensated by Tango for each diary survey you complete. We will pay each partner $1.50 per diary as well as a $2.00 bonus for completing each of the four 7-day weeks of surveys. Payment will be based on individual completion of each diary survey; thus, it is not required that both partners complete a day's survey to receive payment for that day. A research assistant will monitor diary completion and distribute the payments and bonuses on Tango. Couples can thus earn up to $100.00 for completing the 28-day diary component of the study.For the 6-month follow-up surveys, we will pay each couple $25.00 per follow-up survey completed; both partners must complete the survey to receive payment. Research assistants will distribute payments on Tango after both members of the couple have submitted their surveys. Couples who complete all six follow-up surveys will earn an additional $10.00 bonus. Couples can thus earn up to $160.00 for completing all 6-month follow-up surveys.Additionally, couples who complete ALL (or MOST) study assessments will be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of two $500.00 (or $200.00) gift cards! Winning couples will be notified via email, and payment will be distributed by research assistants via Tango.

No, we welcome couples of all kinds! Our goal is to ensure our study findings are representative of people from all backgrounds and identities.

As REAP @ Rhodes is a couples study, both members of the couple need to be willing to participate in order to be eligible.

REAP @ Rhodes is a longitudinal study, meaning that the study takes place over the span of three years. At the start of the study, you will complete an online survey followed by an in-person laboratory session at Rhodes College. After that, you will complete brief daily surveys online for 28 days. Then, every six months for the next 2.5 years, you will again complete an online survey. Each survey is completed remotely via Qualtrics and is designed to be manageable in length. Overall, the largest time commitment occurs at the start of the study, with shorter, periodic virtual check-ins over the following three years.

We ask that couples only choose to enroll in the study if they intend to complete the full study (i.e., all assessments across the three-year period). Importantly, you will only be compensated for the sessions you complete. If there are specific questions or activities you do not wish to complete, however, you are allowed to skip those questions or abstain from those activities without penalty.

It is okay if you move during the study. You do not need to live in Memphis, Tennessee to participate! However, all participants must be able to travel to Rhodes College to complete the in-person laboratory session at the start of the study. After the initial laboratory session, the remaining study assessments are completed online.

We will be sad to see you go, but we understand that plans sometimes change! You can withdraw from the study and revoke your data at any time without any consequences; you only need to contact the research team to inform us. Couples are required to participate together, so if one partner chooses to withdraw, both partners will be removed from the study.

As REAP @ Rhodes is a study of couples, you would no longer be eligible to continue in the study. Upon contacting the research team to inform us, you and your ex-partner would have the opportunity to complete a final survey, and then you both would be withdrawn from theremainder of the study. The compensation for this final survey is $25.00 per person and you do not both need to complete it to receive payment.

In person laboratory sessions will be held at Rhodes College, located at 2000 N Parkway,Memphis, TN 38112. To get into campus, drive in through the Bailey Lane Entrance and park inthe visitor parking spots. Please see the directions and campus map page for more information.

Your privacy is extremely important to us! Any information you provide us with is strictly confidential to the extent permitted by the law.Upon enrollment in the study, you will receive a study ID number. All survey responses and research activities completed during the study will be associated with this ID number, not your name. Your study ID number will be associated with your contact information in a separate file while you are involved in the study. This is to ensure that we are able to contact you for future assessments and to distribute your payment.All information we collect from you will only be accessible to members of the research team. Electronic information will be stored on password-protected laboratory computers and on the Rhodes College Box server in restricted-access folders. Physical records will be stored in a locked file cabinet within a secured laboratory space.Finally, in any kind of report we may publish based on our findings, we will not include any information that would make it possible to identify any of our participants.
